Housekeeping

Policies incorporated by reference

Pulls the handbook and other policies into your contract, and often allows the company to change them later without renegotiating with you.

Where to find it

Near the end of the employment agreement, in the general or miscellaneous provisions.

Search your document for: policies as amended from time to time handbook incorporated

Which version do you have?

Wording paraphrased for teaching. Yours will differ; the shape is what matters.

  • Needs a question

Employee agrees to comply with all Company policies, as amended from time to time.

Your obligations can change after you sign. A permissive outside-employment policy today can be tightened next year, and you are bound by the new version.

Ask this before you sign

  • Where is the current handbook, and how are changes communicated?
  • Has the outside-employment policy changed recently?

What this clause means when you hold two roles

Reading the clause is one thing; knowing how it interacts with a second employer's agreement, where it sits in the self-audit, and what to do when two contracts disagree is the part that takes the work. That analysis, the agreement-review worksheet and the searchable library live in the course.
